Russ Jones

In June of 1987, Russ became a MHIC (Maryland Home Improvement Commission) licensed contractor and started R.L. Jones, Interiors. He produced his own floor plans & elevation drawings. Over the next seven years as a general contractor he completed projects including: several complete home renovations in Federal Hill & Belvedere areas of Baltimore City; mall store build outs in Marley Station, White Marsh & Owings Mills Malls & many kitchen/bath replacements throughout northern Maryland and southern Pennsylvania. In 1994 J.S. Heartwood, Inc. was formed and the residential & commercial building projects continued.

In 1996, Russ designed (using an early 2D CAD program) & built his first complete home theater as a sub contractor for a Baltimore based commercial theater seating company. Soon afterward he participated in the reconstruction of a five theater commercial movie complex in Bel Air, MD. A few months later, Russ became the exclusive theater design & construction contractor for a high end audio video dealer, also headquartered in Baltimore. Dedicated home theater projects followed in upscale homes as far away as northern New Jersey.

Partnered with a Parkton, MD based custom AV company, In January of 2003, Russ designed (using a more advanced 3D CAD program) and constructed a beautiful showroom and theater inside the prestigious Jarrettsville Furniture Store. On display at the showroom are pictures of several completed high-end “Home Cinemas” in addition to a video presentation.

Jeremy Brooks

Jeremy Brooks graduated Cum Laude from Duquesne University in May of 2003 with a Bachelors degree in Music Technology (Sound Recording Technology). Part of this specialized training required him to work with various vocal groups and instrumental ensembles, mixing and recording live sound. While participating in the Masters Program at Duquesne, he progressed to an 800 seat live sound venue and engineered performances by several nationally recognized artists.

Continuing to pursue his passion for audio, shortly after graduation, Jeremy took a position with the Baltimore based recording studio, Clean Cuts Music, Inc. As a sound engineer he mixed audio projects for the Discovery Channel, TLC, History Channel and many others. While at Clean Cuts he assisted in the building of 3 world class sound studios. This specialized construction enabled him to gain hands on experience while putting to use acoustical principles learned at Duquesne.

Not wanting to relocate to another state Jeremy changed employers and became a sound technician for a local AV company in 2005. The main focus of this new position was designing and installing state of the art audio systems for high end home theaters that were currently under construction. Being in this environment on a regular basis Jeremy realized a need and started applying his acoustical expertise to the infrastructure of these rooms.

We are extremely happy that starting June 2007 Jeremy Brooks became the newest staff member of J.S. Heartwood, Inc. Extensive knowledge of acoustics, his highly trained ear and superior computer skills has made him a terrific addition to our 3D Theater Design team.

Dedicated theaters are the main focus of J.S. Heartwood though we will do other specialized projects to meet your needs. Working with a local custom wood shop J.S. Heartwood, Inc. recently designed & built a spectacular “Irish Pub” in a Phoenix, MD. home. A local A/V company installed an integrated sound system and a high definition LCD TV monitor.

Along with studying acoustics Russ and Jeremy continue learning more advanced CAD programs as they become available. Sophisticated raytrace images rendered from his current 3D design program are on display in our showroom at Jarrettsville Furniture and are also featured on this web site.

January 2008 finds J.S. Heartwood and 3D Theater Design designing and constructing projects throughout northern Maryland and southern Pennsylvania in conjunction with custom builders, interior designers and several independent audio video contractors. Recently, as a result of this web site, our specialized theater design and consulting services have expanded. We are now assisting home owners, contractors, civic organizations and business professionals across the US and internationally.
